An old Brooklyn airport is preparing for a new launch as a world-class sports park. Developers plan to make Floyd Bennett Field a citywide attraction as the home of the Aviation Sports and Recreation Complex. The complex will feature a state-of-the-art turf field for football, soccer and lacrosse. Developers say the complex will bring in $5 million a year and boost the field?s already high foot traffic area. Keeping an eye on the history of Bennett Field, which has been a part of the borough since 1931, was important to all parties involved. The $15 million complex, which is scheduled to open in September, will also feature a 3,500 square foot gymnasium and a cricket field.
