The Food Bank for New York City is trying to get kids to eat healthier by taking nutritional snacks to the streets. The organization is visiting popular summer sites for kids, such as parks and pools, in a vehicle that looks like an ice cream truck. Instead of cones and shakes, though, volunteers are handing out free frozen fruit pops, apples and bottles of water. Organizers say they want to convince kids that they can make big health changes without overhauling their routines. However, they insist children need to be exposed to a new food between 12 and 20 times before they adopt it into their diets. All snacks provided by the truck are free.
