Some food industry workers took their fight for fair wages to the streets of Bushwick Monday.
Workers for Handyfat warehouse and the Associated Supermarket on Knickerbocker Avenue were joined by other protesters. They held signs and raised their voices against low pay and a lack of overtime pay. Organizers say the event was meant to show employers all workers, even the undocumented, have rights.
Organizers say they are still willing to sit down with employers at the bargaining table, despite claims owners have retaliated against workers who spoke out.
