"Foodies" now have their choice of fresh produce, antibiotic-free poultry and homemade goodies at a new DUMBO farmers' market.
"I can't tell you how excited I am," said customer Mark Stevens. "This is just great for DUMBO because there is nothing around here. With food costs being the way they are now, this is great ? and it's sustainable."
Organizers said they're also happy to serve the DUMBO community, which typically hasn't been home to produce markets.
"Growing food locally really helps ... provide a counter balance to that type of industrial effort," said John Zeltsman, of Community Markets. He feels supporting local agriculture not only invigorates neighborhoods, but also protects against health scares like the recent tomato-salmonella cases.
The farmers' market will be in DUMBO every Sunday rain or shine though mid-November.
