A former city council member from Brooklyn in need of a kidney donor found his match Wednesday.
Lew Fidler says he has been enduring weekly dialysis for months while seeking a new kidney.
Fidler enlisted kidney matchmaker Chaya Lipschutz to help in February, News 12 Brooklyn previously reported.
Shortly after the story aired, a donor contacted Lipschutz to volunteer, Fidler says.
"Apparently he saw it," Fidler says. "I mean he was aware that I needed a kidney but that's what prompted him, and he contacted her and she walked him through the process right up through medical clearance."
The transplant surgery is scheduled for May 21.
