A new futuristic boxing gym will soon be coming to Brownsville, thanks to Brownsville native and former two-time heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs.

Briggs is Brownsville born and raised, and says he’s ecstatic to give back to the community where he grew up.

“My goal is to save lives. We want to save 20 to 200 lives a day,” said Briggs. “The kids need this. They need to be off the streets, they need a place to go, they love boxing and they are pretty good at it.”

The space will aspire fighters to train and offer kids the chance to learn how to be judges, referees and corner men.

Briggs says that he has a strong feeling that the future of boxing greatness just might be right in his childhood home community.
