Former NYPD sergeant pleads guilty to impersonating ICE official

A former NYPD sergeant has pleaded guilty Wednesday to impersonating an Immigration and Customs Enforcement official to threaten a woman and her family with deportation, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Atickul Islam, 29, of Queens pleaded guilty in Brooklyn federal court to false impersonation of a federal officer.
Prosecutors say Islam sent the woman a series of messages in March 2025, including one threatening to call ICE to “come get” her and her family.
About four hours later, prosecutors say Islam texted her from an unknown number while posing as the director of ICE’s New York Field Office.

In that message, Islam told the woman she and her family had been reported to ICE and needed to report to an ICE office or face “further legal action and enforcement measures,” according to prosecutors.
As part of his guilty plea, Islam was required to resign from the NYPD.
He resigned on Sept. 25 and is barred from applying for a job with the NYPD or any other law enforcement agency.
Islam faces up to three years in prison when he is sentenced.
