Former workers of Indian Spice, a Park Slope restaurant, rallied Tuesday morning, demanding payment of $3 million in lost wages that the state Department of Labor ruled they are owed.

"We were so helpless, we couldn’t afford to pay our rent," said Raju Ahamed, a former employee.

The restaurant, located along 7th Avenue, is still open for business despite a September ruling that says the owner, Miriam Khandakar, failed to properly pay employees over the course of several years.

“She used to bring half of the salary and say 'OK, I'll pay the rest of the half of the salary next week' and that next week never come," said Ahamed.

Raju and other employees are immigrants, and they say Khandakar used the fear of deportation against them.

“We were so scared, she took advantages of the employees, because we are not citizens of this country," said Ahamed.
