A potential redesign for Fort Greene Park is causing controversy among those that want to preserve its original look.
The Landmarks Preservation Commission unanimously voted to move forward with redesigning a corner of the park at Myrtle Avenue and Saint Edwards Street.
The Parks Without Borders redesign plan aims to open up entrances and make the corner more inviting.
Supporters of the plan say the northern side of the park is underused because it is hard to access, but those against it say the changes would remove nature from the park -- trees and historic grassy mounds.
The Parks Department say they will only remove trees nearing the end of their lives, and plan to replace others.
