Free naturalization clinic held in Brooklyn Heights
More than a dozen lawyers and translators were working pro bono alongside Catholic Migration Services Saturday to hold a free naturalization clinic in Brooklyn Heights.
At every table, a client was paired with an attorney and translator if needed, and they went through the paperwork page by page. It marked a step toward becoming a U.S. citizen for dozens of green card holders.
The New York Lawyers for the Public Interests partnered with Catholic Migration Services to run the workshop. Organizers say the legal guidance is essential, but is often out of reach for marginalized groups amid today's immigration crackdown climate.
The services are held quarterly and the next event will be held June 22 in Queens.
