Seniors who rely on free shuttle service from the Park Slope Geriatric Day Center may soon find themselves without a ride.
Directors at the center say the red vans have been transporting Brooklyn seniors for more than 20 years. But they say the half a million dollars it takes to keep the operation running is not going as far as it used to due to the increasing cost of gas, insurance and labor. The directors have appealed to the state Assembly for emergency funding, but they are not sure how much help they will get.
Some of the seniors say they are willing to give up certain perks, such as their annual boat trip, in order to keep the red vans running.
