Prospect Park is getting some unique, freeze-resistant water fountains to use year-round.
Members of the nonprofit group Prospect Park Alliance and local city officials are teaming up to make it happen.
It is something they say the community rallied for.
The fountain looks like a regular fountain, but underground it has plumbing below the frost line, which means pipes won't freeze and water can flow throughout the year. To get water, the button has to be held a few seconds longer than normal, since water is coming from so far underground.
So far, there are just two freeze-resistant fountains around the park's entrances.
Members of the Prospect Park Alliance say they're working on installing two more in the coming months.
