Baba's Pierogies has brought a taste of eastern Europe right to Brooklyn.
Named after her grandmother, Helena Fabiankovic says she opened Baba's in 2015.
Fabiankovic's grandmother, whose name is Juliet Linca, left her native country of Slovakia before settling in Sunset Park.
She brought with her recipes from the old country—many of of which make up the food found at Baba's, Fabiankovic says.
"My grandma has been making pierogies for us every Friday ever since I can remember, and she's the inspiration for the restaurant."
The 3rd Avenue restaurant in Gowanus also serves up more than pierogies. Items like kielbasa and sauerkraut are offered in different variations.
Baba's even has dessert pierogies filled with blueberries and chocolate and seasonal fillings like pumpkin pie.
And of course, if you just want potato and cheese filled pierogies — Baba's has your fix.
