Fuhgeddaboudit Food: Chela
Chela in Park Slope incorporates many aspects of Mexican food, from slow-cooked ribs to shrimp served on a pineapple.
It also offers staples like enchiladas topped with a sauce that takes days to make.
Many diners say the dishes bring back memories of growing up.
Many of the cooks are from Mexico, and Chela partner Ronny Jaramillo says they started giving free English classes.
Server Tracy Moore is also learning Spanish to help her “communicate with my neighbors and my community and then everybody at work, too.”
