A Park Slope resident has a new book on how to take a Jewish delicacy to new levels.
Laura Silver is a knish expert and author of the first ever book-length work about the history of the knish. It involved at least seven years of research and travel, she says.
Silver started her research after a Brighton Beach staple, Mrs. Stahl's Knish Shop, closed down in 2005 following 70 years of success. The shop was one of Silver's favorites and she was determined to keep Brooklyn knishes in hot demand.
Silver says that Brooklyn makes up the perfect audience for her book. "Empanadas, samosas, Jamaican patties. Every culture has its knish. I think Brooklyn is the home of so many cultures and it really embodies the heart of the knish."
