All-day breakfast is one of the main attractions at an eatery on Washington Avenue in Prospect Heights.
"We're lucky that we've been here now for almost 82 years. My Uncle Gus' dad, Tom, started it all," says Jimmy Kokotas, owner of Tom's restaurant.
Many customers say the thing that keeps them coming back to Tom's is its old-school charm.
"Everything is changing in the neighborhood but this still feels like home from the old days, so that's what I like about it," says Prospect Heights resident Mario Michael.
Tom's serves up breakfast favorites like pancakes, eggs, sausage and bacon. Although the menu has evolved as the neighborhood has changed, Kokotas says he prefers to stay as close to the original as possible.
"Stay true to ourselves and comfort food is what we do. We don't get into the fancy stuff," he says.
