A local nonprofit has launched a fundraiser to repair a drone that was destroyed by a crash in the Manasquan Inlet on July 31.

The USAR Drone Team is a volunteer organization that uses advanced thermal drone technology to assist in locating missing pets while providing hands on UAV training opportunities for military veterans.

Officials say the drone previously helped reunite 135 missing pets with their families.

With the loss of the aircraft, they cannot conduct rescues or training.

The team says repairs will cost around $25,000.

“Every rescue means a family gets their pet back and a veteran gains valuable training experience,” said a team official.

Members of the community can contribute to the fundraiser by sharing the campaign or donating.
