A community said goodbye today to the 11-year-old whose body was found last month in the Hudson River.
Friends and Family gathered at the Futa Islamic Center in Morrisania to mourn the loss of Alfa Barrie. It all comes as they await details on the untimely death.
Barrie was last seen on May 12 with 13-year-old Garrett Warren in Harlem, who was found over a week later in the Harlem River. An autopsy showed that he died by accidental drowning. Then two days later, Barrie’s body was found.
The NYPD says that a third child was with Barrie and Warren on the night they went missing and witnessed the two pushing each other before they fell into the water.
Many questions still surround Barrie’s death. Police continue to investigate, and the medical examiner is still looking into the cause of his death.
Last month, Bronx community members gathered to pray for Barrie. The sixth grader was remembered as a loving, caring young body who liked to help his mom. They said he was determined to be someone and wanted to work as an engineer.
The funeral began at 1:15 p.m.
