The future of the Soundview Health Network remains unknown following a guilty verdict for former state Sen. Pedro Espada Jr.
Espada and his son were accused of embezzling $500,000 from the nonprofit center, which has not seen patients in recent weeks due to questions over its finances. Employees say they are concerned about their jobs, but hope an outcome in the trial results in an improvement over their current situation.
Espada was found guilty on four counts of fraud. A judge then declared a mistrial in the four remaining conspiracy and tax fraud counts against him, as well as in in all counts against his son.
