There is a plan to turn a public plaza in Fort Greene Park into a green space with a garden that will represent Brooklyn, both figuratively and literally.
The 14-by-16-foot garden is slated to be installed in the northeast corner of the park. It will be planted in the actual shape of the borough, and will be comprised of plants selected by Brooklyn's community boards to represent each area's heritage and nationalities.
The project is the brainchild of visual artist Juanli Carrion. His "Outer Seed Shadow" project aims to stimulate conversation about culture through public green spaces. Carrion says the assortment plants will be a metaphor for the different cultures growing together in Brooklyn.
Carrion is still in the process of interviewing community board representatives who will select the plants. If all goes as planned, the Brooklyn-shaped garden will be up for display by the end of May.
