Gas prices have leveled out a bit over the past few days but are still near $4 a gallon as many people hit the roads for spring break travel or just to get to work.

According to AAA, the national average price for a gallon of gas is $3.98, down just two-tenths of a cent overnight, but notably the first decrease in several weeks.

New Jersey's average is $3.88, essentially unchanged from yesterday.

On Wednesday, the EPA announced it would temporarily allow widespread sales of a higher-ethanol gas blend in an attempt to lower prices that have surged since the war in Iran began. The higher blend has been prohibited in warm weather because of concerns it could worsen smog.

The higher blend has previously been prohibited in warm weather because of concerns it could worsen smog.
