The lower level of the George Washington Bridge reopened Thursday morning after it was forced to close due to fallen debris on the Cross-Bronx Expressway.

The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. All westbound lanes leading to the bridge’s lower level were shut down for hours.

Officials have not released details about what caused the debris to fall.

One person was hospitalized following the incident, according to authorities.

Crews were seen inspecting the area around 1 a.m. Thursday morning. Officials say traffic delays are expected.

This is not the first local incident involving fallen debris. Just last week, some fell from a building onto a car right before it reached the George Washington Bridge.
