Get Tested Tuesday is your weekly reminder to get tested for coronavirus
City officials are continuing efforts to get the public tested for coronavirus with Get Tested Tuesday.
Tuesday is the city's weekly initiative to get tested for COVID-19, and a day of action where test and trace members provide information about where to get a free COVID-19 tests. The outreach groups will be in several neighborhoods Tuesday with higher positivity rates, handing out masks and helping people find options for testing sites.
New York City’s seven-day average positivity rate is 4.04% as of Tuesday morning. The positivity rate in the Bronx is 4.47%, and Brooklyn stands at 4.04%.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says these next few months will be crucial, especially after the holidays. He emphasized that data suggests 11,000 people will be hospitalized in a month if numbers don't change by January.
Test and trace efforts have increased in communities in need with more testing options, like pop-up sites to self-swab sites.
The goal of Get Tested Tuesday, beyond keeping the positivity rate down, is preventing a second shutdown from happening.
