Looking for the perfect gift isn't always easy. Some people turn to a classic gift card but others say getting a gift card isn't personal enough.

Some consumers say they've had gift cards expire, but companies still help them out.

"Gift cards are easy," says Felicia Taylor. "If you have a gift card that expires, you just contact the store and let them know and they'll re-issue it."

The Federal Trade Commission stresses the importance of buying gift cards from reputable merchants and always looking at the fine print.
