A 17-year-old girl was stabbed multiple times with a kitchen knife inside a high school in Williamsburg, police say.
They say an argument between two teenage girls turned violent just before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice.
The NYPD says the 17-year-old was stabbed in the arm and leg. Paramedics took her to NYU Langone - Cobble Hill, where she is expected to recover.
The New York City Department of Education released the following statement:
"This senseless act of violence is deeply troubling and will not be tolerated. School staff and Safety Agents immediately responded, following all safety protocols. Thankfully, no life-threatening injuries were reported. We are conducting a full investigation, taking all necessary action, and providing appropriate support to the community."
Police say it was not known if the other teenage girl would face charges as of Tuesday afternoon.
