The director of The Mansion at Glen Cove is looking to assure nearby residents that Sunday's shooting that injured three people was an "isolated incident."

Helen Whitehead along with two lawyers held a news conference Tuesday regarding the incident.

Police tell News 12 when security was removing people from the pool party at the mansion with nearly 200 people when gunfire rang out near the lobby, resulting in two party guests and a security guard being shot.

Police say there was no permit issued from City Hall for the pool party, which was required. Lawyers would not answer about the permit, citing the ongoing investigation.

Whitehead says that the suspected shooter attempted to gain access to the event and was turned away at the door. She did not say how the suspect managed to get back, pointing to the ongoing investigation by police.

The director of the mansion did say that extraordinary action was taken by the venue to ensure the event was safe.

"We had a team of 20 security guards staffed for the event and the hours leading up to the event we were in communication with the police," Whitehead says.

She says they have now added extra security to protect people in the North Shore area.

"We will go to every length to make sure that the residents of Glen Cove know that an incident like this will never happen again," Whitehead said.

Officials with The Mansion at Glen Cove says they are meeting with the mayor of Glen Cove Wednesday to talk about what else they can do to keep the neighborhood safe.

The mayor told News 12 that she will not approve a permit for another event like Sunday's pool party.

The person who fired the shots remains on the loose.
