Several local leaders may be donning their brightest purples today in an effort to help raise awareness about domestic violence.
As part of "Go Purple Day," City Council members will be handing out leaflets throughout the five boroughs, which highlight a number of services available to help victims of abuse.
It's all part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October.
The number for the city's 24-hour domestic abuse hotline is 1-800-621-HOPE.
