Two good Samaritans who sprang into action after a 9-year-old collapsed are being hailed as heroes following an incident at Kids Empire in Fairfield Saturday.

According to Fairfield Public Information Officer Stacy Chiarolanza, police began receiving 911 calls at 4:09 p.m. from Kids Empire, an indoor playground located on Route 46. Callers reported that a child collapsed and was not breathing. Prior to the arrival of police and EMS, two bystanders who saw the child collapse began performing CPR, Chiarolanza said. Sergeant Brian Sabatelli, Corporal David Lagan and officers Louis Bisciotti and Daniel Kalinowski then arrived at the location and took over resuscitation efforts until medical crews arrived.

Chiarolanza called the response and the efforts of the good Samaritans to revive the child "a miracle."

“The immediate response by the two good Samaritans allowed officers and medical personnel the time to arrive without any delay to the child. Performing CPR can be an emotional task, but having to do it on a child is something no one ever wants to do," Chiarolanza said. "There’s nothing more to say than this was the absolute best outcome for such a terrible situation. We pray for the child and their family and hope for a full recovery.”

Police say the child - who is not being identified due to age - remains hospitalized. The child’s condition has improved but will require additional medical treatment, Chiarolanza said.
