“Goosebumps” author R.L. Stine met with the children of incarcerated parents at the Children of Promise NYC headquarters in Bed-Stuy on Tuesday.
The kids met the author, had their books signed and got to participate in a friendly competition on making the scariest classroom door. The competition was judged by Stine himself.
The Children of Promise program targets the sons and daughters of formally incarcerated parents. CPNYC President Sharon Content said the experience allowed the children to understand what it means to be an author.
"It might seem like something very far reached. It’s a name on a book. But for them to actually visualize it and meet the person and meet the name is just a really wonderful experience,” says Content.
The CPNYC program is in its 10th year, and it hopes to keep offering programs like this one with Stine.
