The New York/New Jersey-based team claimed the title after defeating the Seattle Reign 2-1 in November. The big win came a year after Gotham FC finished in last place.

The president praised the team for never giving up.

“There were doubts about turning things around, but you never gave up. You never gave up and you kept the faith…and after a tough season, you're in the final team to make the playoffs. The saying goes, ‘Winners simply win,’” the president said.

The team presented Biden with a jersey bearing the number 46 on it.
