Gov. Cuomo says NY task force will review forthcoming COVID-19 vaccine
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that he is appointing a committee to oversee the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, saying he does not trust the federal government to guarantee its safety.
“The federal government has shown that it is incompetent when it comes to COVID…It’s proven,” he said.  “This nation’s response is the worst on the globe. Just look at the numbers.”
He then pointed to a graphic showing a handful of countries, including Italy, China and France – all of whom had under 50 COVID-19-related deaths on Tuesday. The U.S. had 1,091.
The Clinical Advisory Task Force will consist of scientists, doctors and health experts "who will review every vaccine authorized by the federal government for distribution, and will advise NYS on their safety and effectiveness."
He also says the state’s goal is to become the first in the nation to be COVID-19 free.
The governor also says he and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, of Michigan, are calling for a congressional oversight investigation into the Trump administration's politicization of the pandemic response.
During the morning briefing, Gov. Cuomo addressed the unrest Tuesday after the grand jury’s decision not to charge three officers in the death of Breonna Taylor.
“Breonna Taylor’s death was murder. People are outraged because it’s outrageous,” he said.
