Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Thursday the state is cracking down on health care plans that don't cover patients' mental health services.
The fines include providers' plans which denied or failed to pay claims involving behavioral health services.
"No New Yorker should face unnecessary barriers to mental health care, especially if their insurance carrier fails to meet their legal obligation to cover these essential services,” said Hochul.
Affinity Health was fined $350,000 for failure to reimburse. Emblem Health was also fined $422,000 fine for the same reason. MVP HealthPlan received the largest penalty at $584,000.
