Gov. Kathy Hochul provided an update on New York state's response to the COVID-19 pandemic while touring the Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island Friday.
Hochul shared that positivity numbers are going down, as are hospitalizations. The seven-day rolling average has also gone down.
To offer more assistance during the pandemic, the governor is calling for more support in nursing homes by deploying 88 non-medical National Guards members to support nine nursing homes throughout the city. There also will be 80 new pop-up vaccination sites opening this week in the state.
Officials say the state has secured 73 million tests, with more than 16 million already distributed and over 10 million going to public schools and charter schools.
Hochul is emphasizing she is still taking the pandemic seriously and that restrictions will stay in place.
