Gov. Kathy Hochul continues to push for vaccines and booster shots after the state has confirmed at least 20 cases of the COVID-19 omicron variant.
Hunts Point is currently the neighborhood with the highest seven-day COVID-19 infection rate for the Bronx. Officials say that's mostly due to the delta variant, but they are still concerned about omicron.
According to the governor, 13 of the 20 confirmed cases of the new omicron variant are in the city.
While doctors are still learning about this new variant, the state’s health commissioner says current cases are consistent with community spread.
Hochul wants people to know the state has a plan and to stick with what is known - vaccines and boosters can help fight potential COVID-19 surges. On Thursday, the governor encouraged 16- and 17-year-old adolescents to get the booster, which is now approved for that age group.
