Gov. Lamont: 'Vaccines and boosters keep you out of the hospital'

Gov. Ned Lamont on Monday stressed the importance of booster shots now that there is a case of the omicron variant in Connecticut.
Lamont made the announcement at Union Station in New Haven.
"Here's what you've got to know... vaccines and boosters keep you out of the hospital," Lamont says.
Currently, a quarter of Connecticut's adult population has gotten a booster shot.
And a quarter of children 5-11 are vaccinated.
Officials hope the numbers go up especially with winter and the holidays approaching.
The state is trying to make the vaccine as accessible as possible whether people are looking to get their first or second dose or a booster.
More clinics are popping up including one at the Union Station in New Haven.
Vaccinations are also available at the Stamford train station, Bradley Airport and the Westfield Trumbull mall.
State health officials say based on data from South Africa, the omicron variant appears more transmissible than the delta variant.
Officials say it's too early to tell if cases will be more or less severe.
