A new Jewish-Muslim restaurant is bringing together different communities in Gowanus.
Owners Erdem Sahin, a Turkish Muslim, and David Shagalov, an Orthodox Jew, created the Bison and Bourbon restaurant to attract kosher eaters.
"My personal background, their personal background, there's never going to be a cliché and there shouldn't be one as well," Shagalov says.
Sahin says the idea came from Shagalov and his friends when they proposed changing Sahin and his partner's original cafe into a kosher eatery to create more business.
They say the goal of the restaurant is to make it a place for any community.
