Grammy Award-winning jazz artist Samara Joy was greeted by local students on the stage with lots of excitement at the 92nd Street Y, New York to hear her sing songs from legendary artists who inspired her.

The show on Thursday ended a series of free concerts and performances for students at 92NY that gave youngsters an opportunity to be exposed to different music genres.

Several schools took part, including Eagle School in the Bronx, to showcase what they’ve practiced alongside the Bronx native and award-winning artist.

Samara Joy hails from the Bronx and was recently named Best New Artist at the 2023 Grammy Awards. She says today’s performance is to inspire and encourage the next generation of talent.

“I think it's important for kids to see musicians' great musicians who know their instruments and be inspired by them,” said Joy. “They could take away they love the drums and love the sounds of the pianos, that's enough.”
