Grants up for grabs for restaurants hurt by new stove standards
Restaurants have until next year before the DEP begins issuing violations. Applications for the $5,000 grant are being accepted through the end of May.

New stove emissions rules could impact NYC pizzerias
19ds agoRestaurants that are being impacted by the city’s new stove standards will now have a chance to receive some financial assistance.
Around a dozen restaurants in the Bronx need to update their ovens. New rules from the Department of Environmental Protection require wood- and coal-burning stoves from 2016 or earlier to now be equipped with new technology that reduces pollutants and emissions.
For those restaurants, like Morrisania staple P.G. Pizza, that change can cost some serious dough.
“The expense is big. You’re looking at about $20,000 to change over the filtration,” said Lisa Sorin, of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce. “They have about $500,000 to spread the wealth, and when you think about it, you’re looking at about $5,000 per business. Is it big? No. But will that $5,000 make a difference? Absolutely.”
