The Greenpoint Library is honoring those who have passed due to the coronavirus and it has found a unique way to involve the community.
The COVID-19 Remembrance Project is aiming to honor those lives by creating paper cranes.
When staff started making the complex origami pieces, the community got involved and got the library closer to its goal.
They expect to have more than 1,000 cranes.
"The paper crane symbolizes peace, love, hope, recovery, and healing during challenging times,” said children’s librarian Tenzin Kalsang.
Although it was slated to be up for a month, Kalsang says it has been so popular that it will likely be up longer.
