Members of religious and community groups joined together Saturday to stage a silent march through the streets of Brooklyn to denounce violence.
The march marked the first National Day of Non-Violence in four cities across the country.
Participants walked through different neighborhoods to spread their message of peace.
"What's going to make this different? The unity between the different organizations that have connected for today," said one participant. "We weren't united in the way that we were before."
Members of the group say that if they influenced just one person's life, then they've done their job. They plan to hold more silent marches each year.
