A "Better Block" event was held Saturday in an effort to create a business improvement district in Cobble Hill.

The outdoor event aimed to give people a preview of what Smith Street could look like if it had a BID, organizers say.

Volunteers say the BID would create a cleaner, greener neighborhood for all business and residents to enjoy.

In exchange for signing up for a survey, volunteers handed out free ice cream on what was a sunny summer afternoon.

About 20 percent of property and business owners in the area support the creation of a BID. It will need 51 percent in order to move forward.
