The group Transportation Alternatives says the city's Department of Transportation may have a plan to make Times Plaza look nicer, but it is neglecting to make the intersection safer.
The group's members and elected officials gathered Saturday at the busy intersection, which includes Flatbush, Atlantic and Fourth avenues.
"It's crazy to make a lovely little plaza right here without making it safe to cross the street," said Councilman Brad Lander.
Transportation Alternatives has sent a letter to the DOT in an effort to get more safety improvements included in their plan.
A DOT spokesperson said in a statement that they are aware of the challenges of that intersection and are planning improvements.
