A mobile van offering free ultrasounds rolled up to a Bronx women's clinic Tuesday as part of an abortion protest.
The group Expectant Mother Care parked at 149th Street and Southern Boulevard where it posted a sign inviting moms-to-be to stop in. The organization says the purpose was to show mothers ultrasounds of their babies in hopes of preventing abortions. Critics argue the practice is unethical and manipulative.
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene says more than 20,000 abortions were performed in the Bronx in 2005. That's the second highest rate in the city.
