Commuters who use the 60-year-old Hamilton Avenue Bridge will have to find a new route when the Department of Transportation starts a massive facelift on the structure in two weeks.
In an attempt to avoid the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, commuters rely on the Hamilton Avenue Bridge to ease their drive. New York City Department of Transportation said that the bridge will get a complete overhaul.
Construction will begin in about two weeks on the northbound side of the bridge followed by the southbound side in 2008.
A member of community board seven said New York City Department of Transportation will be collaborating with the state transportation department on the road work.
The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, located above the Hamilton Avenue Bridge, is currently undergoing road work of its own.
