Hate crimes in New York alarmingly high within the last 5 years

A report released today by the State's Comptroller's office revealed that hate crimes in New York are rising at a startling rate. Findings show hate crimes have gone up by nearly 70% between 2019 and 2023.
Hate crimes our state are targeting Jews more than anyone else. Nearly 44% of all hate crimes targeted the Jewish community. In addition, Black communities, Muslim, gay, Asian and transgender also saw an increase.
Brooklyn residents who spoke with News 12 say they have all experienced a hate crime personally, or know someone who has.
As noted in the report, efforts are now in place to combat the violence. Tactics are on a state and federal level and include education to teach people about how to live and coexist with one another, while celebrating everyone's differences.
