The city’s Health Department revealed Tuesday that it shut down a 10th school for violating the commissioner’s orders regarding the measles outbreak.

The Health Department says Central UTA Satmar School for Boys on Wythe Avenue in Williamsburg failed to exclude staff and students who didn’t have documented proof of immunity.

News 12 was told the school also failed to hand over vaccination and attendance records.

The Health Department says there have been 588 confirmed cases of the measles in New York City since September.

However, officials are feeling cautiously optimistic about the outbreak. Dr. Oxiris Barbot, the city health commissioner, said Tuesday that they saw measles cases in May drop by 58% compared to April.

In April, Dr. Barbot ordered mandatory vaccinations for those who did not have the measles, mumps, rubella vaccine to be vaccinated. According to the New York City Health Department's website, more than 27,000 doses of the MMR vaccine have been given to people under 19 years old in Williamsburg and Borough Park since October.
