City officials sent out an excessive heat warning today to prepare city residents of high temperatures later this week.
Temperatures are forecast to be over 100 degrees later in the work week.
Residents are encouraged to stay out of the heat, and either cool down in air conditioning or in the pool.
City officials say those with pre-existing health conditions and older adults are especially at risk in these temperatures.
Cooling centers have opened across the city. This year, centers that are pet-friendly have been added to each borough.
City officials are asking residents to avoid strenuous activity and to keep outdoor activities at a minimum on these upcoming days, especially on Wednesday.
