Heavy rain caused flooding in several parts of New Jersey on Sunday, leaving roads underwater, stranding vehicles and prompting officials to close streets and urge residents to avoid flooded areas.

In Monmouth County, floodwaters inundated parts of Deal, where fire hydrants were nearly submerged and several small cars became stranded in high water. Police asked residents on Edgemont Drive to move their vehicles away from the Deal Lake area.

Nearby in Neptune City, heavy rain and strong winds contributed to flooding that covered streets. Vehicles traveling through the area pushed water onto sidewalks and toward nearby businesses.

Flooding also affected Princeton, where the town remained under a flash flood watch Monday evening. Princeton police closed Elm Road between Westerly Road and Mountain Avenue and asked drivers to avoid the area.

In Camden County, floodwaters poured into Tony Morelli's Market in Glendora. Fire crews worked outside the business to clear storm drains in an effort to reduce the flooding.
