Advocates for missing women of color hosted a summit in Highbridge Friday to ask the public's help to find their loved ones.
The disappearance of Gabby Petito in 2021 had the nation on edge, and now the advocates called for the same focus for women and girls of color.
Girl Vow, a mentoring program for girls impacted by the juvenile justice system, foster care and poverty, hosted the event. The panel included advocates, educators and survivors.
According to Girl Vow, there are currently over 70,000 women of color who are currently missing. Among them is Kassandra Ramirez, a Bronx girl who has been missing since September 2018.
Mothers who attended the summit hope that opening up the dialogue will eventually help bring their daughters home.
