Bensonhurst’s historic New Utrecht Reformed Church is finally set to reopen after 15 years.
The process to repair the church started in 2003. It needed a new roof, but from there the church faced problem after problem.
The congregation had to move services into the parish house building for 15 years while they raised funds for repairs. News 12 visited the church two years ago as a fundraiser tried to raise $250,000 to complete renovations.
On Dec. 16, the fourth-oldest congregation in Brooklyn will be back in their 190-year-old building.
While there are still additional repairs that need to be made inside, many tell News 12 that they're grateful donors and church members will finally be able to get back inside the church they know and love.
The next phase in construction is to complete the organ alcove. The church needs $200,000 for that.
